The once-luxurious mansion has now been deemed completely
uninhabitable after the devastating fire.
A beautiful Connecticut mansion was engulfed in flames on
Thanksgiving Day after residents decided to fry a turkey in the garage.
Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate and be thankful, but it can also
come with its fair share of risks if you’re not careful, especially when
it comes to cooking traditions.
Jaw-dropping photos of the massive fire consuming the mansion serve
as a reminder of just how quickly things can go wrong when safety
precautions aren’t followed.
Firefighters rushed to the Weston home after being alerted by an
automatic fire alarm at around 3:40 pm on Thanksgiving Day.
The property, located in Weston Road, a well-off neighborhood,
was already ablaze by the time they arrived.
“Upon arrival, fire personnel located a well involved garage
fire that was rapidly extending into the residence,”
detailed a Facebook post from the Weston Volunteer
Fire Department.”Firefighters attempted an aggressive fire attack
however their efforts were thwarted by dangerous fire conditions
and structural collapse.””In addition, a vehicle drove over the
water supply hose on Weston Road, damaging the line, which
completely stopped the flow of water for several minutes.”
The firefighting teams were on-site for a grueling 16 hours,
battling intense heat that made it nearly impossible to get close to the blaze.
Investigators suspect the fire began because the residents were frying their
Thanksgiving turkey in the garage, though an official cause has
not been confirmed yet.Weston Volunteer Fire Department
Chief John Pokorny described the scene to CT Insider:
“When we arrived, the whole garage end of the house was on fire – like a third of the house.”
“It accelerated really rapidly. We had great water supply.
Really, the issue was the fire had progressed so much by the time we arrived on scene.”
According to CT Insider, there were 25 people gathered at
the mansion for Thanksgiving festivities. Thankfully, everyone
was able to escape the burning building without injury.Sadly,
officials have now declared the mansion uninhabitable due to
the extensive damage caused by the fire.
Photos obtained by Weston Today show the once-stunning mansion
reduced to ruins, with only the exterior deck still somewhat
recognizable—a heartbreaking sight for the property’s owner.
In a statement, Weston First Selectwoman Samantha Nestor expressed her gratitude:
“I would like to thank all the Weston volunteer firefighters,
Weston volunteer EMS, WPD, as well as the mutual aid fire
departments from Westport, Easton, Wilton, Ridgefield, Georgetown,
Redding, and West Redding, who battled the house fire during Thanksgiving.”
“Special thanks to the Weston Public Work, American Red Cross,
Salvation Army of Danbury, Aquarion, Eversource and Soco Gas
for their assistance. Thank you for your Service and I am grateful everyone is safe.”
