The Uvalde community is mourning the loss of Regina Santos-Aviles,
a 35-year-old congressional staffer for U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales.
She passed away after being found outside her home and transported
to a San Antonio hospital for emergency care. Authorities, including
the Texas Rangers and Uvalde Police Department, have launched an investigation into the circumstances of her passing.
Santos-Aviles had served as regional district director since November 2021,
where she played an important role in supporting local development
and helping residents gain access to resources. She was admired for
her dedication to public service and her close connection to the people of Uvalde.
Rep. Gonzales expressed condolences in a statement, saying she
“devoted her profession toward making a difference in her community,”
and that her passion for helping others would not be forgotten.
Police Chief Homer E. Delgado noted there is no indication of foul play
at this time, though a full review will continue as part of standard procedure.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release its
findings in the coming weeks. Family members are cooperating fully with authorities as they await further details.
Friends and colleagues remember Santos-Aviles as a devoted mother
and a vibrant presence. Loved ones described her as someone who
could brighten any room with her warmth and kindness. Though her
passing has brought sadness, her legacy of service and the
positive impact she made will continue to inspire her community.
