Life often surprises us with twists that challenge what we believe to be true. While unsettling at first,
these moments can later become fascinating stories we share, sometimes even with humor once enough time has passed.
One afternoon, I received a call from my mom asking me to pick up my younger brother from school. Her voice sounded tired,
so I didn’t hesitate. I drove over, found him waiting outside, and brought him home. But when we walked through
the door, everything shifted. My mom looked at me in shock, her face pale, and quietly said, “But… I never called you.”
The words froze me. Confusion washed over me as I replayed the phone call in my head—her voice, the request,
everything sounding exactly like her. Yet she stood there, insisting she hadn’t made the call.
My brother stared, just as unsettled, realizing something inexplicable had just happened.
Though brief, that moment left a lasting mark on me. It reminded me how unpredictable life can be, and how sometimes
we encounter mysteries that defy easy explanation. Even now, when I think back, I’m left both unsettled
and oddly fascinated—grateful it ended safely, but still wondering who, or what, had called me that day.
