Remembering Officer Bailey Martin
Officer Bailey Martin, a devoted young officer from Odessa, Texas, tragically lost his life when floodwaters swept away the RV he
was in during a family trip in Kerr County. His body was found miles away in Travis County, with his Bible—bearing his name—discovered nearby.
Martin, who joined the Odessa Police Department in 2022, was admired for his maturity, quiet dedication, and deep compassion.
Though young, he earned widespread respect from his peers and community, embodying what it meant to serve with integrity.
Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke described him as “a conscientious officer” who made a lasting impression on everyone
he worked with. His loss has left a deep void in the department and in the hearts of those who knew him.
In his honor, flags were lowered to half-staff, officers wore mourning bands, and residents lit blue porch lights across the city.
A memorial held at City Hall brought the community together to reflect on his life and the impact of the devastating floods that claimed several lives.
Bailey Martin will be remembered as a kind soul, a protector, and a true servant of his community.
His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the example he set.
