Midtown Manhattan Shooting Leaves Four Dead, Including NYPD Officer
On July 28, 2025, a mass shooting at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan left four people dead, including off-duty NYPD Officer Didarul Islam.
The gunman, 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura of Las Vegas, died from a self-inflicted wound. Authorities say he acted alone, and his motive remains unknown.
Officer Islam, a three-year NYPD veteran and father of two with another child on the way, was working building security when he was fatally shot.
Two men and a woman also died, while another man remains in critical condition. Victim identities beyond Islam have not yet been released.
Tamura legally owned a handgun and had a documented history of mental health concerns. Surveillance shows he entered the building alone,
which houses major companies including KPMG and the NFL. A woman in an elevator was spared after Tamura allowed her to leave.
Mayor Eric Adams and other city officials expressed condolences and praised law enforcement’s quick response.
A GoFundMe campaign is now raising funds to support Officer Islam’s family.
Authorities assure the public there is no ongoing threat. The investigation into Tamura’s background and motive is ongoing.
