Rodeo Community Mourns Rising Star’s Passing

Ace Patton Ashford, an 18-year-old rodeo star from Lott, Texas, tragically lost his life in a ranch accident. While caring for a sick calf, a startled

horse caused his leg to become entangled, dragging him across a field and inflicting fatal head injuries. Despite swift medical help, he did not survive.

A gifted team roper, Ashford had recently graduated from Rosebud-Lott High School and was set to join the Hill College Rodeo Team.

His numerous junior and all-ages championships marked him as one of rodeo’s most promising young talents.

Friends and mentors described him as humble, hardworking, and deeply respectful. Cody Snow, a National Finals Rodeo roper,

called him “about as pure as they get,” praising both his skill and character.

To honor his memory, a scholarship fund has been established to support young rodeo athletes.

Ashford’s passing has left a lasting impact on the rodeo world, reminding all of the risks riders face and the courage

it takes to pursue their passion. His legacy endures through the kindness he showed, the inspiration he gave, and the sport he loved.
